Who Swieqi suits
Swieqi suits families, groups and guests staying a week or longer who want space and a good night's sleep more than a sea view. It also suits anyone renting a car, since parking is easier here than in Sliema or around the bays.
Getting there from the airport
The drive from Malta International Airport usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are available outside arrivals. We can arrange a private transfer with a driver waiting for you at arrivals: just ask when you book.
Getting around
Swieqi is on a hill. Walking down to Paceville, St George's Bay and the St Julian's restaurants is easy; the walk back up is steeper, so many guests take a taxi home at night. Buses run on the main roads around the area.
A car is useful here if you plan to explore further: Mdina, the north of Malta and the sandy beaches around Mellieħa are all a drive away.
Shops and daily life
Swieqi is where many people who work in St Julian's actually live, so the shops serve residents rather than tourists: bakeries, grocers, pharmacies and a few neighbourhood restaurants. For a bigger choice of places to eat, head down to St Julian's.
Beaches
The nearest sandy beach is St George's Bay, downhill in Paceville. For the Blue Lagoon, Comino and Gozo, boat trips leave from Sliema, and we can book them for you.
Practical tips
Bring comfortable shoes for the hill. If you are driving, ask us about parking near the apartment before you arrive. Evenings are quiet, which makes Swieqi a good choice if you are travelling with children.
